Here are the facts:
• Our software is Microsoft EV Code Signing certified, meaning it undergoes rigorous verification by Microsoft
• We've scanned the file on VirusTotal with zero detections from 70+ antivirus engines: View Report
Unfortunately, some aggressive antivirus tools (including Norton Power Eraser) occasionally flag legitimate software to "prove their value" through false positives—especially for smaller developers. This is a known industry issue that affects many reputable apps.
To stabilize recording, please use one of these two setups:
Option A (Recommended): Virtual audio device
We recommend a free virtual audio cable:
• VB-CABLE (FREE): https://vb-audio.com/Cable/
Steps:
1) Install VB-CABLE and reboot Windows.
2) In Firefox, set output to "CABLE Input (VB-Audio Virtual Cable)".
3) In Cinch, set Recording Device to the matching VB-CABLE endpoint (same route, do not use Auto).
4) Keep playback + recording on this single VB-CABLE route during the full recording session.
Option B: Default device only
1) Set both playback and Cinch recording to the same Windows default output device.
2) Do not play any other audio sources/apps while recording.
3) Do not change devices while recording.
Mixing different playback/recording routes is the main cause of instability in your logs.
Root Cause: The "flat sound with no bass" you're experiencing is caused by Windows audio enhancements on your default playback device. When you connect your AirPods Pro Max, they bypass these system-level audio effects, which is why the quality is great with them.
Solution: Please disable audio enhancements on your default playback device:
1. Right-click the speaker icon in the Windows taskbar
2. Select "Sound Settings" or "Sounds"
3. Click on your default playback device (e.g., Speakers/Realtek)
4. Go to "Properties" → "Enhancements" tab
5. Check "Disable all sound effects" or "Disable all enhancements"
6. Click "Apply" and restart your recording
Why this works: Cinch uses WASAPI loopback capture to record system audio. Windows audio enhancements (bass boost, virtual surround, loudness equalization, etc.) process the audio before it reaches our recorder, which can cause frequency loss and the "flat" sound you described. Bluetooth headphones like AirPods often bypass these effects entirely.
